While observing local protests the artist considers the essence of universal power struggle between Oppressors and Oppressed: a dialogue between current events and ongoing revolution of the vulnerable against kleptocracy. Open compositional spaces invite interpretation.

The media—stains and patches in charcoal, pastel, and oil—evolve on-the-go, much like the struggle itself. They are chaotic and aggressive, a clash of light and dark, sometimes well-defined and sometimes elusive and uncertain just like the future under a government with arbitrary and unlimited power.

The horses’ strength and nobility emphasize the fragility of man, easily crushed by the power of The State while battling for common existence. Natural human dynamism is stunted and people are robbed of their security, groundless in a radicalized reality.

Forced isolation—quarantine—sets the stage for distrust in government, interpersonal alienation and then (ironically) camaraderie in the revolutionaries during a period of unprecedented estrangement.
